Your Own Anxiety: Start as an EOL Companion

The initial anxiety of actually coming out in your community initially can be crippling. It can be so bad that you do not venture out and serve the way you know you can. Listen in as Deanna describes perhaps framing your role as and end-of-life companion instead of end-of-life doula.

A companion walks along side of someone; they do not guide. Most often end-of-life doula is perceived to be more of a guide, whether you are or not. We are still in the beginning stages of the work, so there is little uniformity in practice as you have no doubt seen. So take charge of how you want to refer to yourself and how you will feel most comfortable in the beginning. Take it slow.
